2010 Honda Insight Cost Comparison
Comparing the 2010 Insight to its closest hybrid competitor, the Prius, Honda has found there apparently has been some confusion regarding the price/value equation between the two vehicles. A recent post found by Honda showed a poster claiming the price difference between the two vehicles equipped "as customers want" as only $700 more for the Prius. We show the difference to be closer to $5,000. We have a powerful independent 3rd party source that comes closer to our numbers.

Power Information Network (PIN), an affiliate of J.D. Power and Associates, reports the average transaction price of the 2010 Insight for June* at $21,526, and $26,436 for the 2010 Prius. "Average transaction price" includes transportation charges, options and accessories, but not taxes or fees. So Prius buyers, according to PIN, are paying $4,910 more for a Prius equipped "as customers want." The difference will become bigger when sales tax is applied. $5000 is a big gap, and Honda believes the vehicles will attract different buyers with different value sets although there is sure to be cross shopping between the two.
