Racing legends David Hobbs, Kenny Bernstein, Scott Parker, Les Richter, Al Unser, Jr., H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler and Joe Weatherly were inducted into The Motorsports Hall of Fame of America at its annual ceremony on August 12, 2009 at the Fillmore Theater in Detroit.

 

"Innovation and competitive spirit are hallmarks of the class of 2009," says Hall of Fame president Ron Watson.  "These men have exemplified leadership and teamwork both on the track and in the front office."

 

David Hobbs is currently a television broadcaster on Speed Channel whose sports car driving career spanned three decades.  While accumulating some 40 major victories at all levels of motorsports, he captured the 1971 U.S. Formula 5000 championship and the 1983 SCCA Trans Am title.  Hobbs also raced competitively at the Indy and Daytona 500s, in Formula One and 20 times at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Honda has once again captured the "Best Brand" top honors from Kelley Blue Book in their annual Best Resale Value Awards.

Depreciation often is the greatest expense incurred by drivers during the first five years of vehicle ownership, so choosing a vehicle that retains its value better than others is important in keeping  total ownership cost low. Do you have to transport your favorite friend for exercise? Vacation?. To the Park? The Beach?  Well according to a  Bark Magazine article by Maureen McDonald, Honda is the way to go.
"The research was an excruciating process. I'm super happy with my Pilot," says Sandra Mannion after three months of shopping for the ideal dog wagon for business and pleasure use. Mannion started looking for a vehicle roomy enough to take a pair of dogs and several passengers to exercise sessions on the beach and spacious enough for carpooling to the dog sport competitions.  When she found the Pilot, her search ended. " I love this car like it has a beating heart," she says.
As Mannion did her search she learned that the Toyota Highlander has wider wheel hubs that restrict the size and number of crates one can haul, the Toyota FJ Cruiser looked mighty cool but the fuel economy wasn't as high as the Honda Pilot's. She also likes the Pilot's extra-dark tinting on the back window, the moon roof that opens wide to ventilate the dog quarters after a swim and several climate-control zones to keep her dogs comfortable on a long journey. The hatchback has a double gate, so when she reaches a dog park, she can open the upper section and lower the windows, increasing the airflow for the dog waiting in the crate while she puts the other one through his paces.
Honda has a hybrid model-the Insight-but its most high-profile "dog car" is the Element which is advertised as "man's best friend's best friend."  The company may have a point: The urethane-coated floors are simple to wipe down, wide open cargo doors on both sides (plus a clamshell dual tailgate mechanism) allow for easy entry and it's one of the least costly sport utility vehicles available. Auto critic Mark Phelan says these features make the Element among the most frequently seen models at dog parks. When Ace romped in the river and then climbed, mud -soaked, into the Element, Phelan washed it down, wiped it dry and returned it to the manufacturer no worse for wear.  At April's New York Auto Show, Honda premiered the concept car for their Element EX Dog Friendly  option package.  While details were still being worked out at press time, the package will include, among other things, a cushioned dog bed with an elevated platform, water bowl, load-in ramp and rear ventilation fan.

David Hobbs Honda is excited to be involved in a new charitable partnership this year with the Ice Age Trail Foundation. One of only eight national scenic trails in the United States, the Ice Age Trail will be a thousand-mile walking/hiking trail located in and unique to Wisconsin. Two hundred named lakes and several hundred other unnamed lakes and ponds are along the Ice Age Trail ? more than at almost any national park.  About 600 miles of 1000 miles are now available for use and it has already been featured in National Geographic Magazine.  Protecting, building and maintaining the many segments of the Ice Age Trail is a major task so to assist in the maintenance of the project, David Hobbs Honda has donated the use of a brand new 2006 Honda Ridgeline RTL for one year.

How can you and your family enjoy the Ice Age Trail? The scenic pathways are primarily for walking, hiking and backpacking. However, Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are also popular winter uses. Other types of activities such as biking, horseback riding, snowmobiling or all-terrain/off-road motorized vehicle use are allowed on the Trail where specifically marked.
